What technology does Barracuda Networks use?
The architecture of the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall, Barracuda Web Filter, Barracuda IM Firewall and Barracuda Load Balancer product lines leverage the most effective and efficient technology available today. Our appliances are Linux-based, and our objective is to provide the best and most complete solutions to our customers. For example, Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall combines spam and virus filtering to both increase user productivity and reduce the load placed on the email server. The Barracuda Web Filter combines content filtering with best-of-breed spyware and virus protection at the gateway. The Barracuda IM Firewall integrates an IM server with an IM security gateway in a single appliance. The Barracuda Load Balancer distributes traffic across multiple servers in a server farm while also adding an extra layer of security with integrated intrusion prevention capabilities. All Barracuda Networks appliances are further backed by technologies at Barracuda Central, an advanced technology center where engineers work continuously to provide the most effective methods to combat the latest Internet threats.

Why are your prices so low?
We are able to keep our prices low by investing heavily in our engineering team who have devised a superior hardware design that is cost effective as well as top performing. In addition, due to the high volume of units we ship we can take advantage of the economy of scale and pass the savings on to our customers. Our no per user licensing philosophy keeps our solutions affordable as well. We realize that scaling a company is costly on its own without additional license fees from solution providers. Therefore, to keep costs down we do not charge on a per user basis. This results in a more effective solution for our customers at a lower cost.
Is Barracuda Networks here to stay?
Absolutely. Barracuda Networks is a profitable company experiencing continuous month-over-month revenue growth. Such profit is a direct result of operating efficiencies and processes that will allow Barracuda Networks to scale proportionately with international growth. Expect Barracuda Networks to continue to be a major player in the security market for years to come.
What is your position on open source?
Barracuda Networks strongly supports the open source initiative for software development. Some Barracuda Networks products utilize open source programs in their operation. If we make any changes to open source programs we offer those changes, bug fixes, or improvements back to the team working on the project. Typically, our only changes to open source programs are bug fixes, which are incorporated into the open source project at the discretion of the open source project team. Typically we do not make other changes to open source programs. If we do make other changes, they are normally minor, such as changing interfaces, and these changes are offered back to the open source team and also made available to the public.
