Server Only Deployment ConfigurationWhen using only the IM server of the Barracuda IM Firewall, the product may be installed anywhere on the network. Typically the server will be placed in a DMZ for access by remote users and any other Barracuda IM Firewalls with which secure communication is desired. For this type of deployment, it is recommended that the public IM networks are blocked either by the corporate firewall or by the Barracuda Web Filter.
Standard Deployment Configuration The Standard deployment configuration consists of simply placing the Barracuda IM Firewall on your network between your Internet Firewall and your LAN, and assigning an IP address for access and configuration via the Barracuda Web-based administration interface.

We love the user interface, the features, the ease of use, and yes, the price - which is about half the price of our old solution on an annual basis - of the Barracuda Web Filter, but the support is what sold it to us. Previous experience with our Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall told us what to expect and Barracuda Networks did not disappoint. With other filtering products we got used to hearing ‘that’s because you are using a Mac – that doesn’t work with a Mac; try it on a Windows machine.’ We never heard that from Barracuda Networks.
