Barracuda Ethernet Tap FAQs
Does the Barracuda Ethernet Tap require AC power?
No. Although the Barracuda ethernet can be powered by an AC adapter (included), battery power can also be used in temporary situations.
What type of battery does it require?
To run on battery power, the Barracuda Ethernet Tap uses a 9v battery.
Can I use regular network cables when connecting my Barracuda Ethernet Tap?
Yes, regular RJ45 connections are used. Four cables are required for full duplex operation.
Two for the network side and two for the monitoring side.
The two network ports, labeled "In" and "Out," should be connected inline on your network.
The two monitoring ports, labeled "Tap 1" and "Tap 2" should connect to the network monitoring device.
Can I monitor a half duplex connection using the Barracuda Ethernet Tap?
Yes. As long as the Barracuda Ethernet Tap is connected properly it will monitor either full or half duplex 10/100 connections.
The device I use to monitor the network has only a single NIC port, can I still monitor a full duplex connection?
Yes, but it will only be able to monitor traffic in one direction at a time, meaning you can either see incoming or outgoing traffic, not both.
